The Fourth Event: Theism and Natural Sciences: Foundations and Theoretical Contemplations, and Theism and Evolutionary explanations.

This event was held from October 15 to October 19, featuring 14 prominent Iranian and international speakers. The first day of the event (October 15) took place at Sharif University of Technology with six distinguished speakers presenting.

Day 1 (October 15):

  • Dr. Nima Narimani delivered a lecture on Science and Ideology (Evolutionary Theory Case Study).”
  • Dr. Narges Bahmanpour discussed Whitehead’s Evolutionary Metaphysics.”
  • Dr. Ebrahim Azadegan explored “Randomness in Nature and Divine Providence,” addressing related challenges.

In the second session:

  • Dr. Naeimeh Pourmohammadi presented on “God as Omniscient: A Cognitive Explanation,” examining the challenges of theism through the lens of cognitive sciences.
  • Dr. Reza Naderloo spoke on Evolutionary thinking, the climax conflict between natural sciences and religious thinking.”
  • Finally, Dr. Hassan Miandari presented on Evolution of Religion: (Moral) Relationship with the Supernatural (God)” and discussed moral challenges within this domain.

Virtual Sessions (October 16–19):

  • Prof. Rope Kojonen (University of Helsinki, Finland) delivered two lectures on methodological naturalism and design arguments” and “Relationship between design and evolution.”
  • Prof. Elliott Sober (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA) discussed “Darwin and Intelligent Design.”
  • Prof. Michael Behe (Lehigh University, USA) conducted two lectures on “The Argument for Intelligent Design in Biology” and “Addressing Objections to The Argument for Intelligent Design in Biology.”
  • Prof. Nidhal Guessoum (American University of Sharjah, UAE) addressed “Islam, Science, and Methodological Naturalism” and “Islam and Science in Education” in two sessions.
  • Prof. Denis Alexander (University of Cambridge and Director of the Faraday Institute) examined “Is Evolution a Theory of Chance?” from the perspectives of biology and genetics.
  • Prof. Shoaib Ahmad Malik (University of Edinburgh, Scotland) presented on Evolution and Religion, Islamic Attitude.”
  • Dr. Zakaria Arden delivered a talk on “Contingency, laws, and theistic explanation in the context of evolution.”
